HOW IT IS DONE
A grand piano is moved on its side, not flat. The crew remove the music desk, then the legs and the pedal lyre, and stand the body on its straight side on a padded skid board. The body is wrapped in a fitted transit cover and strapped securely, then carried upright to the van and braced for transit.
The legs, lyre and lid fittings are protected separately. At the destination the process is reversed and the piano is reassembled in your room of choice. This is skilled work, because a grand is heavy and unevenly balanced, and the soundboard, rim and finish are easily damaged if it is handled like ordinary furniture.
TRANSIT PROTECTION
Every grand travels in a top of the range, triple-thickness, fitted transit cover, not loose blankets. The legs and pedals are each protected in their own individual padded bags and stowed together in a heavy duty crate for additional in-transit protection.
We move on padded skid boards and use stair-climbers and spider dollies for controlled handling. This is the level of care a specialist grand piano mover provides and a general removals firm does not.

CRANE AND HOIST LIFTS
When a grand cannot go up or down the stairs, for example a flat with a tight stairwell or a first-floor music room, we arrange a crane or external hoist to lift it through a window or balcony. We assess the access, plan the safest method, and confirm the price in advance, so there are no surprises on the day.
Stairs and lifts are chargeable and the cost is calculated automatically online from the number of floors and whether a lift is available. You see the full fixed price before you book.
