What Actually Changes the Cost of Moving a Piano

Piano moving prices vary because piano moves vary. The good news is that the things that change the price are simple and predictable. Once you know them, the instant quote makes complete sense, and there are no surprises on the day.

1. The type and size of the piano

A digital piano, an upright and a grand are three different jobs. As a rough guide, most uprights are a two-person lift in the region of 200 to 300kg, a grand is heavier and far more awkward because of its shape, and a concert grand needs more crew, more kit and sometimes a crane. The instant quote asks what you have so the price fits the actual instrument rather than a one-size-fits-all rate.

2. Access at both ends

This is the big one. A ground-floor room with a wide doorway is straightforward. Stairs, narrow hallways, tight turns and upper-floor flats all take more time and more care. Stair access is chargeable and is calculated automatically from the number of floors and whether there is a lift, so the price reflects the real job at both the collection and the delivery address. As an example, a second-floor flat with a lift the piano fits into is a very different job to the same flat with no lift, where everything goes up the stairwell by hand, and the quote works that out for you automatically.

3. Distance

A move across one London borough is not the same as London to Surrey or a longer run across the country. Distance feeds into the price, but our set weekly routes keep it efficient.

4. The delivery day

Every postcode area has one set delivery day each week. Booking on your area's day is the most cost-effective option because the van is already there. If you need a day that is not your postcode's normal day, that is still possible, with an off-day surcharge.

5. Timing and urgency

Standard scheduled delivery is the keenest price. Same-day and next-day moves are available when you need them and are priced accordingly.

See your exact price

Rather than guess, the quickest path is the instant online quote. Answer a few questions about the piano and the two addresses and you will see a fixed price and availability straight away, then book in two minutes.

When it has to arrive perfectly, there is no second choice.
